Sprint Boat Racing at State Fair Park
Sprint boat racing is one of the most exciting motorsports in the world. With a course that consists of a 3-foot-deep channel, 20 feet wide, filled with water, winding throughout a series of islands.
Each sprint boat is occupied by a driver and a navigator, who must memorize a complex course, known as the “rotation,” which they are not provided until days before the event. Navigating shallow channels at extreme speeds demands exceptional skill and coordination between the two-person team. Sprint boats are compact, high-powered jet boats, typically measuring 12 to 14 feet in length, with engines ranging from 500-1,500 horsepower. These boats can accelerate from zero to 80 mph in mere seconds, providing a thrilling spectacle for fans.
The new, permanent course -- referred to as the "Talladega" of sprint boat tracks by some racing teams -- was built at State Fair Park in 2025, and the inaugural race weekend was held in August 2025.
In 2026, State Fair Park began hosting two weekends of races -- a June weekend and an August weekend. That pattern will continue in 2027.
The format remains the same, with a full day of qualifications each Saturday and elimination rounds and finals each Sunday — all racing against the clock.
Spectators will enjoy the action from grassy, terraced berms, VIP viewing areas, all behind safety fencing for optimal visibility and comfort.
