The Perfect Plate Project

The Perfect Plate is a free project for 4th-grade elementary students, hosted by the Central Washington State Fair. This program is open to public, private, and homeschooling classes.

How It Works:

  1. Register Your Class: Teachers sign up their class to participate.
  2. Receive Materials: In April, project materials and instructions are delivered to participating schools.
  3. Submit Projects: Completed projects are picked up in June and displayed at the 2026 Fair, September 25 – October 4.

Deadline to apply is Monday, March 31st, 2026.

All materials are provided free of charge and delivered to participating Yakima County schools by Fair staff. Students also receive free admission to the Fair to see their project on display.

The Perfect Plate teaches students about food and nutrition, and how these are connected to local commodities produced right here in Washington State. Students document their meals for a week, learn about creating a balanced meal plan, and create their own “Perfect Plate” featuring commodities produced in Washington State.
